Falander Privacy Policy
This Privacy Policy explains what information the Falander mobile app and this website collect, why, who can see it, how long it is kept and how to delete it. Falander helps the households that look after the same children share a calendar, agree who is doing each pickup and dropoff, and check in while they are out.

Summary
- We collect only what the app needs to work: your account, your family plan, the children you add, the calendar, pickups and dropoffs, and the check ins you post.
- Your location is used only while you choose to share it during a live check in, and only your latest position is kept.
- Everything in a family plan is visible only to the adults in that plan. Nobody else can see it.
- We do not sell your information, we do not show ads, and the app contains no advertising, analytics or tracking software.
- You can delete your account at any time in the app (Settings, Your account, Delete my account) or by email.
Information we collect
Information you give us
- Account details. Your email address and your password. The password is stored only as a secure hash by our hosting provider. We never see it in readable form.
- Profile. Your name and, if you choose to add it, your phone number.
- Family plan. The plan name, the names of the households in it, which household you belong to, your role, the plan's join code and its time zone.
- Children. The names of the children you add, an optional date of birth, and which adults are their parents.
- Calendar. Events you add, with their times, place, notes, the children involved and whether they repeat.
- Pickups and dropoffs. When and where a child needs collecting or dropping off, any note, and who said they will do it.
- Check ins. The quick status you choose, any note and any photo you add.
- Messages to us. If you email us, we receive your email address and whatever you include.
Information created automatically
- Account identifier. A random ID assigned to your account.
- Notification records. A record of each notification we send you, whether it was delivered, and whether you opened or dismissed it. We use this so reminders are not sent twice and so someone who dismissed a reminder is not sent the next one.
- Push token. An identifier for your phone that lets us deliver notifications to it.
- Service logs. When the app talks to our servers, our hosting provider records technical information for security and reliability, such as the IP address, the time of the request and basic device information.
Information we do not collect
Falander does not read your contacts, your phone's calendar, call logs, messages, advertising ID, health information or audio. Invitations work with a share link and a join code, so the app never asks for your contacts. Falander does not sync your personal calendar. The app has no payments. The website does not use cookies, analytics or tracking.
Location
- Falander uses your location only when you start a live check in, and only if your family plan has live check ins turned on. Before your phone asks for permission, the app explains what sharing does.
- While a live check in is running, your phone sends your position about once a minute, including when the app is in the background. A bar stays at the top of every screen with an End button the whole time.
- Sharing stops when you tap End, after eight hours at most, or when you sign out or delete your account.
- Only your latest position is stored. Each update replaces the one before, so Falander does not keep a trail of where you have been.
- The adults in your family plan can see the position on a map. The children's parents are notified when sharing starts and ends.
- Maps are shown using Apple Maps, so Apple receives the map area being viewed to draw it.
- Falander never collects location at any other time.
Camera and photos
- The camera is used only when you choose to take a photo for a check in.
- The photo picker gives the app only the photos you select. Falander cannot browse your photo library.
- Check in photos are stored in private storage. They can be opened only through a link that our servers issue to members of your family plan, and each link expires after an hour.
- Falander does not use the microphone.
Notifications
If you allow notifications, we tell you when a pickup or dropoff needs someone, when someone says they will do it or hands it back, about check ins on your children, and about changes to your family plan. Notifications include the child's name, the time and the place, so they can appear on your lock screen. You can turn notifications off at any time in your iPhone settings. Notifications are delivered through the Expo push service and Apple Push Notification service.
How we use information
We use information only to provide and protect the service:
- to create and secure your account and sign you in, including sending verification and password reset emails;
- to show your family plan's calendar, children, pickups, dropoffs and check ins to its members;
- to send the notifications and reminders described above;
- to answer your messages and requests, including deletion requests and reports;
- to keep the service secure, prevent abuse and enforce our Terms of Use;
- to meet legal obligations.
We do not use your information for advertising, we do not build profiles about you, and we do not use your content to train artificial intelligence models.
If the law where you live requires a legal basis, we rely on performing our agreement with you, our legitimate interests in keeping the service secure, and compliance with legal obligations.
Who can see or receive your information
- Your family plan. Every adult in your family plan can see the plan's households and members, the children, the calendar, every pickup and dropoff and who claimed it, check ins and their photos, and the map during a live check in. Members can see each other's names, and email addresses and phone numbers where given. Anyone with your plan's join code or invite link can join, so share it only with people who help look after the children. The plan owner can remove a member at any time.
- Service providers. We use Base44 to host the app's database, sign in, email delivery, backend functions and photo storage. We use Expo and Apple to deliver notifications, and Apple Maps to draw maps. These providers process data only on our behalf and under their own security and privacy commitments, and may not use it for their own purposes.
- Legal reasons. We may disclose information if the law requires it, or if it is needed to protect the safety, rights or property of users, the public or us.
- Business transfer. If Falander is transferred to another owner, your information may move with it, and this policy will continue to apply to it.
We do not sell or rent personal information, and we do not share it with third parties for their own marketing or advertising.
Information about children
Children do not use Falander and cannot have accounts. The app is used by adults: parents, grandparents and other caregivers. The adults in a family plan may enter a child's name, an optional date of birth, the times and places of their activities, and check in notes and photos about them. We use this information only to run the family plan it belongs to and never for any other purpose. A parent or guardian can correct or delete a child's details in the app at any time (Family, then the child), or ask us by email. If you believe information about a child was added without a parent's or guardian's permission, contact us and we will help remove it.
Information stored on your phone
To keep you signed in, the app keeps your sign in session securely in your phone's keychain. During a live check in it also keeps a note of the session so sharing can continue in the background. The app keeps recently loaded information in memory while it is open. Signing out removes the session. Uninstalling the app removes everything it stored on the phone.
Security
All data sent between the app and our servers is encrypted in transit with HTTPS and is encrypted at rest by our hosting provider. Access rules on our servers limit every record to the members of its family plan, so a member of one plan can never read another plan's information. Photos are kept in private storage. No system is perfectly secure, so please choose a strong, unique password and share your join code only with people you trust.
How long we keep information
- Account details and profile: for as long as your account exists.
- Family plan content: for as long as the family plan exists, or until a member deletes it. When the last member deletes their account, the whole plan is deleted.
- Live location: only the latest position of a live check in is stored, and it is deleted with the check in.
- Notification records: for as long as your account exists.
- Service logs: kept by our hosting provider for a limited time, at most 90 days.
- Backups: deleted data can remain in our hosting provider's backups for up to 30 days and is never restored for use, except to recover from a technical failure.
- Support email: kept as long as needed to handle your request, normally no more than 12 months.
Deleting your account and data
You can delete your account at any time.
- In the app: open Settings, tap your name to open Your account, tap Delete my account and confirm. Your account is deleted straight away.
- Without the app: email support@kabapps.com from the email address you use for Falander with the subject "Delete my Falander account". We will confirm the request and complete it within 30 days. Full details are on our account deletion page.
What happens when an account is deleted:
- Your sign in, email address, password hash, name, phone number, push token, notification records and every check in you posted, including any photo and location, are deleted.
- Any live check in you were running stops, and pickups or dropoffs you had said you would do go back to the family plan, which is told.
- If other adults remain in your family plan, the calendar, children, pickups and dropoffs stay with them because they are shared. Things you added are shown as added by "Former member". If you owned the plan, the adult who joined first becomes its owner.
- If you are the last member, the whole family plan is deleted: its households, children, calendar, pickups, dropoffs, check ins and notifications.
You can also leave a family plan without deleting your account (Settings, Family plan, Leave), and edit or remove children, events and pickups at any time.
Your rights and choices
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, export or delete your personal information, to object to or restrict some uses, and to complain to a data protection authority. You can correct most information in the app and delete your account as described above. For any other request, email support@kabapps.com. We will respond within 30 days and will not treat you differently for using these rights. We may need to confirm that the request comes from the account owner.
Where information is processed
Information is stored by our hosting provider and may be processed in the United States and other countries where our providers operate. Where the law requires it, these transfers are protected by appropriate safeguards such as standard contractual clauses.
Changes to this policy
If we change this policy, we will update the effective date above. If a change is significant, we will also tell you in the app or by email before it takes effect.
